1 / What birds will use your birdhouses?
The majority of our birdhouses have 1 1/8" or 1 3/16" opening. These are geared towards welcoming the smaller of the common backyard birds on Southern Vancouver Island such as:
Chickadees, Nuthatches, Wrens, House Finches, etc.
We also have 1 1/4" portals which welcome birds such as House Sparrows.
We have also made custom birdhouses for larger birds.
But the reality is if a bird feels comfortable enough to enter and feels safe and secure enough to stay, they will.
2 / How do I mount the birdhouse I bought?
There are a variety of ways you can mount our birdhouses. Below we have three PDF documents showing different ways to mount your birdhouse. We will be adding to this list over time along with product you can buy from us or online that make mounting your birdhouse easier.

5 / Why don't you have a perch on your birdhouses?
When we started researching and building birdhouses in 2020 we discovered that there's a lot of different opinions our there on "What birds want in a birdhouse". As time went along and we researched more we found the overall majority of bird experts agreed that a perch is not recommended. The primary reason being that predator birds will use the perch to make the entry hole bigger and attack the birds inside. So, safety first...no perch.
6 / What other health and safety features do your birdhouses have?
In addition to the "no perch" our birdhouses also include:
Ventilation Holes - these are typically drilled along both sides just under the overhang of the roof to help keep the heat regulated inside the birdhouse.
Drainage Holes - these are typically drilled in the bottom of the birdhouse or along the bottom of the sides just in case any moisture gets inside the birdhouse.
Fledgling Ladder - these are a series of horizontal lines cut or scrapped into the inside of the birdhouse just under the entrance. They give the baby birds something to grip onto as they climb up to the portal for their first test flight.
Hole/Portal Protector - We use 1/2" acrylic to make our hole protectors. Unlike other hole protectors ours wrap inside the front edge of the hole and they are thicker.
Easy Cleaning - All of our birdhouses are designed to easily remove the roof for a quick and easy cleaning.
